I’m sorry are two words that can save so many hassles in a relationship but agonizingly, these two words are less often used by relationship partners. Ego, refusal to accept wrong, unnecessary stubbornness and probably immaturity hinder partners from apologising after doing a wrong.
Saying I’m sorry when in the wrong can save so many things in your relationship in many ways.

1. IT REDUCES THE TENSION
Relationship sometimes comes with a tension that can be likened to a volcanic eruption and if not properly handled it can make the relationship really erupt or explode. Little things can cause major dramas in a relationship, it always starts with a little thing and it grows till it becomes unbearable. With the simple words of ‘I’m sorry’, the tension is lessened and that can save the relationship from cracking up.

2. IT WOULDN’T LET THINGS ESCALATE
When you apologise to your partner at the slightest instance, you save things from escalating, and once things escalate, it can reach a boiling point which would cause that relationship to suffer. Do not let ego have the better of your relationship, don’t argue when you are supposed to apologise; it might seem easy and ordinary but it isn’t, it would save your relationship from dramas. Once drama steps into your relationship, it would lead to a whole lot if not properly handled.
3. IT’S THE FIRST STEP TO RECONCILIATION
With apologising, you have created room for reconciliation and with that things would go on smoothly like nothing happened, and that’s what a mature relationship is all about, that’s the secret of a successful relationship. When you apologise, you reconcile but when you don’t apologise, you fight and argue, and that isn’t healthy for your relationship.

4. IF YOU ARE HONEST, YOUR PARTNER WOULD DEFINITELY FEEL THE IMPACT
I’m sorry isn’t I’m sorry; there is a difference between an honest I’m sorry and an insincere one. If you are honest about your apologies, your partner would appreciate your sincerity and your willingness to make the relationship work.

5. IT SHOWS YOU CARE ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP
When you apologise about a wrong done, it shows your intent in trying to keep your relationship in the right track. However, when you don’t, it shows naivety and a lacklustre attitude towards the relationship growth. If you care about your partner and about your relationship, you wouldn’t hesitate to say I’m sorry when due; hurting your partner’s feeling is one thing, not being sorry for it is another major flaw entirely.

6. IT DOESN’T LET RETALIATION, ANGER, MALICE AND OTHER VICES CREEP IN
Retaliation exists in many relationships and it’s appalling; it’s appalling because relationships shouldn’t be warfare; it should be romantic, it should be between two caring people who love each other. However, not apologising for a wrong can make retaliation step in and that can lead to anger, malice, contempt and so many vices that kill relationships.

Though, it should be made clear that apologising shouldn’t be the only thing in mind, you should also take responsibility for your actions. Admit your mistake, apologise for it, fix it and don’t repeat it; with these, you have shown sincerity in your actions and saved your relationship from a world of hassle.
