Before you get married, people probably told you that you were making the best decision of life. The truth is they were right but that isn’t the only thing they should have told you about marriage. No one tells you how awkward being married could be or the many other challenges you have to go through.
Below are 8 things about being married no one ever told you
1. CONFLICT IS PART OF BEING MARRIED
If you got married thinking you would have no conflicts, then you should think again. The truth is conflicts are a healthy part of marriage and there is nothing you can do to avoid it. Managing conflicts is key in every marriage as having conflicts is inevitable. Selflessness and sacrifice is needed to manage conflicts in every marriage.
2. YOU NEED SOME ALONE TIME
Just because you are married doesn’t mean everything starts and ends with your spouse. You still need to have a life of your own, pursue your own interests too as long as you don’t do it at the expense of your marriage. Just because you are married doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have hobbies, still create out time to enjoy your hobbies.
3. SOMETIMES YOU LOOK AT THE PERSON YOU GOT MARRIED TO AND ASK IF THIS IS REALLY FOREVER
Sometimes you wake up in the morning and ask yourself if this is really forever. The truth is some days you wonder why you were in a hurry to get married. What you should realise in such moments is that marriage isn’t as rosy as you see them in the movies. You should realise in such moments that marriage isn’t a destination; it’s a journey filled with equal parts excitement and tedium.
4. S*X ISN’T EVERYTHING
When you were dating, s*x was everything and it was something you could more than five times every day but it’s different in marriage. S*x becomes so much fun during marriage and awesome too but you might not even have the time to go five times as you did while dating. While s*x is important in every marriage, you should realise it isn’t everything. Sexless periods are a natural part of married life and that doesn’t mean your partner no longer loves you.
5. YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT WORK
No one would make your marriage work but you and there is one other thing you also need to know, you would work harder than you thought to keep your marriage. Ask any couple in every successful marriage how they made it work and they would all tell you the same thing, hard work is necessary. When you are married, you have to learn each other the same way that you once learned mathematics in school and you never stop learning about your spouse.
Marriage isn’t a bed of roses but you could still make it as enjoyable as possible, it all depends on you and your partner.
